There was not enough food for anyone during the war. It was difficult to make and get what you needed. This is normal in war.

In the trenches people sometimes ate rats! They didn’t have enough food for everyone so therefore they started to eat rats. It was hard to get water as well.

In Germany nobody was allowed to eat sausages. They used pigs' intestines to make airships, therefore they were not allowed to eat sausages.

At the end of the war Germany was starving. This is the reason why WW1 ended. Even after the war people paid millions for bread and other food. They didn’t have much food so everybody offered as much money as they had.
