Belgium was originally neutral. The border between Germany and France was protected with barbed wire and more dangerous things. The Germans had a plan to go through Belgium. The Germans attacked Belgium on the 4th of August, in 1917. Belgium tried to fight against Germany. Belgium was really good but The German soldiers were better. The people in France knew that Germany was going to go through Belgium very fast. So France was going to Belgium and attack the Germans. Belgium was very destroyed by the Germans. They attacked Liege first. The Germans had a plan to do terrible things like burn down houses and kill people and take food. They burned many books. Over hundreds of people died.
